Homeland Security Advisory Condition: Elevated (Yellow) An Elevated Condition is declared when there is a significant risk of terrorist attacks. The Department of Homeland Security may declare an Elevated Condition when there is no specific intelligence indicating an impending attack, but global conditions suggest a signficant potential for terrorist attacks. Recommended Actions: Individuals & Families The American Red Cross and Critical Intervention Services recommend the following actions for civilians and families during periods of Elevated Condition: Be alert for suspicious activity and report it to authorities immediately Review disaster and emergency action plans with all family members Update disaster and emergency action plans and ensure that necessary supplies are obtained and stored at home If not known to you, contact school to determine their emergency notification and evacuation plans for children Additionally, individuals and families should adhere to the recommended Protective measures for Guarded and Low Condition. Recommended Actions: Government The Department of Homeland Security recommends that Federal and local agencies implement the following Protective Measures in addition to agency-specific protocols: Increasing surveillance of critical locations; Coordinating emergency plans as appropriate with nearby jurisdictions; Assessing whether the precise characteristics of the threat require the further refinement of preplanned Protective Measures; and Implementing, as appropriate, contingency and emergency response plans.
These protective measures are recommended in addition to protective measures established for Guarded and Low Condition. |
